Resonance of Memories [installation]
For the Machinefabriek in Vlissingen, Schunselaar creates the art installation Resonance of Memories, an installation that explores the relationship between sound, memory, and space, with a focus on dementia and noise pollution. In this work, he combines tape recorders, microphones, and stone sound sources to create a layered, interactive experience. Visitors can record and play back sounds through an analog system, causing the sounds to move through the space and gradually distort — a metaphor for the process of forgetting and remembering.
In addition to installations, Schunselaar works with materials such as stone, blueprint, and interactive electronics to capture invisible phenomena like sound vibrations and temperature differences. In Resonance of Memories, stones with built-in speakers and microphones explore the impact of sound on our perception and memory.
Through his work, Schunselaar invites the viewer to reflect on the influence of technology and sound on our bodies and memories, making the intangible tangible.
