From a young age, Sjoerd Schunselaar (1990) has been fascinated by audio-visual and electronic technology, the power of nature, and the human body.
Biography
What began with dismantling a Game Boy eventually evolved into the creation of three-dimensional objects made from raw materials like wood, stone and natural rubber. By combining these materials with physical phenomena such as body temperature, sound and electrical impulses, his work seeks to bridge the gap between humans and technology.
“In my work, I make invisible elements of nature visible through the use of technology. With machines and instruments, I translate research findings into visual pieces with a minimalistic and mysterious aesthetic. In doing so, I offer a new perspective on what once seemed unseen — from the dust in our pockets to the warmth of our hands.”
